Hi there,
Does any documentation exist for the Endless One hardware / BIOS?
Further to that, if I muck around with my Endless One, is there any difference between what’s on the system now, and an EOS install?
Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff, I can’t speak to the hardware (although I’ll ask internally to see what we have).
I believe the software images are the same as the downloadable OS, only with codecs enabled and paid for. I don’t think those images are publicly available but I suspect a hardware support request would get you a URL if you needed it. Some of the stuff depends on what model of EC-200 you have, I think the 32gb is a split disk with 16gb eMMC and a 16gb SD card wheras the 500gb is a single hard drive.
Sorry that isn’t terribly helpful straight up (we made this before I joined) but I’ll try and see what we can do to help.
No worries, it’s been a while since the Kickstarter! It’s an EC-202-006, the 32GB split disk one.
Guess who just slapped his forehead after discovering that hitting Escape during early boot (who’d’ve thunk it) drops into a very normal AMI BIOS with UEFI and USB boot support. Round of applause, please.
I quote from an internal channel: “theres no docs or BIOS info, but its a very standard PC/BIOS with the only exception of the breathing LED”. As you see, escape to get to the BIOS, F1 to get into grub.
Thanks! After a little more digging, I’ve discovered that it’s based on a Bay Trail-M SoC, and being a pretty standard part, there’s lots of information out there. Hopefully this helps if anyone else goes looking.
@jdub You may have already gathered this from the forum, but in addition to what Nick said about codec enablement above:
the main difference between what was shipped on Endless One Kickstarter units and what we have now is the version of the software. We released Endless OS 3 a few months ago and due to the robust changes we made to the stack, there isn’t an automatic upgrade available from versions 2.X to 3.X. We are working on a way to guide our previous users through installation of Endless OS 3, but unfortunately, it will still be semi-manual.
Endless OS 3 is significantly different and will let you install things like VLC and Google Chrome in the upcoming major release in mid-January. When our next version comes out, I’d highly recommend updating to 3.1 then. To do so, you should save all of your files and do a fresh install using the version on our website: https://endlessm.com/download/ because I’m not sure when we’ll have the semi-manual update script ready.
Let us know if you have any other questions! It’s great to see an early supporter from Kickstarter here - thank you for being an important part of our journey!!
ok thanks for that info… so does that mean that I would have to stay on 2.6.9 for a good while… I don’t like it when I have to change my settings again…
@CREDWARD - yeah, in your case I think it’s best to wait until we have the update script. I’ve heard rumors it may come out sooner than I previously thought though… We will post an update to the #en:releases channel when it’s ready!
