Attention new users: Flash and Netflix temporarily broken

Recently, Google has stopped shipping the Flash Player with Chrome. Due to that, our process for extracting Chrome plugins is broken, so new users will not automatically download the Flash plugin or the Widevine plugin, which allows you to use Netflix.

Existing users who already have the plugins installed are not impacted.

We know that Flash and Netflix are very important for our users, so we’re working as fast as possible to have a fix shipped in Endless OS 3.0.5, which will be released soon.

In the meantime, you can manually install the Flash and Widevine plugins for Endless OS 3.0.4 using the following instructions:

  1. Open a Terminal window (for example, search on the desktop for “term” and click on the “Terminal” icon)

  2. Type the following commands, hitting ENTER after each one:

wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/endlessm/eos-chrome-plugin-updater/master/eos-chrome-plugin-update-upstream
chmod +x eos-chrome-plugin-update-upstream
sudo ./eos-chrome-plugin-update-upstream

  1. Close all open browser windows and restart the browser

Once you do that, the Flash and Widevine plugins should be installed. Check to make sure by visiting chrome://plugins.

As a last step, you can make sure Flash is working properly by visiting http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ and making sure you can see the animation.

Thanks for your patience, and let us know if you need additional help!
