Audacity preferences dialog crashes in Endless

when I try to access the preferences dialog, Audacity crashes and offers to save debug information somewhere in the /tmp directory. After several attempts I realized that I can access the debug information only when I enter the running Audacity context.

This fatal crash does not occur when I install and run Audacity from flathub under Q4OS.

Any ideas?

I am using EndlessOS 3.5.6 but although I was able to repeat the error several times after it first occurred, it is not reproducible anymore.
