Chromium browsers print gobbledygook on a new HP printer using Endless OS

Hello,

I’m using Endless OS 6.0.7 on a Ryzen 5 4000 series.

Using IPP I can see my printer, HP OFFICEJET PRO 8130e.

I can even print! But the result is gobbledygook! (I can’t work out how to attach an image).

Words get reproduced as unrelated letters such as “5H 1HZV” and then beneath “PHVVDJH” and so on throughout the text.

I have tested other browsers such as Brave and Vivaldi with the same result.

On the other hand, if I print to PDF and then print the PDF to my printer, the result is intelligible.

If anyone could help or suggest what I could try, I’d be grateful.

Thx.

I find that I cannot print an email attachment; when I try I get the message that “the printer is not available or is setup improperly”. But if I save that same attachment as a pdf, it will print just fine. I mention this in hopes it may shed some light on your printing issue.

Chromium browsers on Endless OS may print garbled text with new HP printers due to driver or compatibility issues. Try updating printer drivers, using a different browser, or printing as PDF first.

Thank you Jack.

Printing to PDF first does appear to be the answer.

It is likely a driver issue. Try installing HP’s official Linux driver or switch to a different print system like CUPS.

I see the same thing with my HP printer sometimes, and I’m afraid I don’t know why. You may have better luck using printing to PDF and then printing the resulting PDF.
