Guidance- End of Support

Hi everyone! I have an Acer Nitro Acer Nitro AN517-51—endless OS 5.1.4.
I understood that Endless support for this configuration would no longer be possible. It will remain on Endless OS 5.1 indefinitely. I am so sorry! Can I keep updating applications like GNOME, Free Desktop, Intel VAAPI Driver, Firefox, etc.?
What will happen from now on? Could the notebook stop working correctly? I can’t afford a new computer at the moment. Thank you.

Your notebook will continue working correctly. Most applications will continue to receive updates, unless or until the application requires a newer version of Flatpak (the app distribution system used by Endless OS) than is present in Endless OS 5.1. A few applications are built into the OS and cannot be updated.

However you may be able to adjust your laptop’s settings and continue receiving OS updates. Quoting from the release notes for Endless OS 6:

For advanced users, it is typically possible to switch to a standard storage configuration from the BIOS settings. The exact steps to do this vary on different laptops:

  • On Acer products, consult this video. Note that the option is initially hidden: you must select the Main tab in the BIOS settings, then press Ctrl+S to make the option appear.

Once you make this settings change, an OS upgrade to Endless OS 6 will become available.

It is safe to disable Intel RST in the BIOS. It will not affect the performance of the system.
