Instalar apps fora do flat hub

Estou querendo instalar o google earth no meu computador. Ele vem zipado e quando extraio não vem o arquivo exec e fico totalmente perdido. Como faço para instalar corretamente esses aplicativos? O procedimento é igual para todos os que eu quiser instalar?

Google Earth Installation

Execute the following commands in a Terminal.

Download Google Earth:

wget -O ~/Downloads/ge.deb "https://dl.google.com/dl/earth/client/current/google-earth-pro-stable_current_amd64.deb"

Extract it:

TEMPDIR=~/tmp.$RANDOM
mkdir ${TEMPDIR}
dpkg --extract ~/Downloads/ge.deb ${TEMPDIR}
mkdir -p ~/opt
cp -vrp ${TEMPDIR}/opt/* ~/opt/
rm -Rf ${TEMPDIR}

Create the Shortcut

cat << EOF > ~/.local/share/applications/google-earth.desktop
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Google Earth
Exec=/sysroot/home/$(whoami)/opt/google/earth/pro/google-earth-pro %f
Terminal=false

Type=Application
Categories=Application
MimeType=application/vnd.google-earth.kml+xml;application/vnd.google-earth.kmz;application/earthviewer;application/keyhole
EOF
chmod +x ~/.local/share/applications/google-earth.desktop
gio set ~/.local/share/applications/google-earth.desktop metadata::trusted yes
