Keyboard + touchpad stopped working

After battery running out the keyboard and touchpad have stopped working. The F keys are still functioning (I can even adjust the brightness and volume through keyboard shortcuts). After pluging in a mouse through USB I have tried to use the virtual keyboard but even that is not functioning.
