here’s the story.
When i upgraded my computer to Endless OS 6 (6.0.3 now), the cursor theme i was using didn’t work anymore, i got a gray square box instead as pointer icon. Did a clean install of Endless OS, issue was still here.
I did some researches and this bug was reported on the bugtracker of Mutter : Cursor is now just a grey square in mutter 46 when using cursor theme without CSS cursor names (#3184) · Issues · GNOME / mutter · GitLab
Since version 46 of Mutter, legacy X11 cursor themes support was dropped as they don’t comply to some CSS specifications.

Then the issue was fixed with Mutter 46.3 (support was back)
But overall, i’m not sure that the bug encountered in Endless OS 6 is related to Mutter because this package is still in version 43.8, which makes sense since OS 6 is based on Debian Bookworm and Mutter 46 was released 6 months ago.
Maybe some backporting brought this bug ?
