O Endless OS teria alguma tecla de função para desiligar o vídeo, porém mantendo o HD rodando com os downloads no ‘background’?

Yes, that’s possible. Open Settings, then navigate to power and turn “Automatic suspend” off:
In combination with “Blank Screen” this is exactly what you want to achieve: Power down the display, but keep the computer running.
