cant update or download anything at all = unknown error . I ran the terminal app and got the report

You are running a really old version of Endless OS and should update to a newer one. As the version you are currently running has technical issues downloading newer software, my recommendation are as follows:

  1. Backup everything you need to a external storage media
  2. Create a USB Installer for the current version on another computer and reinstall yours.

If that is not a option for you, you can also take the long road and perform all necessary steps for upgrading your device to the latest version:
