Beta Release | Endless OS 4.0.0~beta4

A new beta release of Endless 4.0 is out! Please follow these instructions if you want to join the beta testing program. Bear in mind that the chance of encountering bugs in a beta release is higher than in a regular release – please ensure your data is backed up before joining the beta.

This release brings a few bug fixes and stabilization work on top of the previous beta release, listed below:

  • Fixed some issues when trying to print from flatpak applications
  • Updated documentation

Endless OS 4.0 will bring a lot of changes and improvements, detailed in the Endless OS 4.0 (UNRELEASED) Release Notes.

As a beta tester, you can help us by providing feedback on stability and hardware support, and reporting software regressions (things that used to work in previous releases that stopped working on this new release). And specifically for this upcoming release, we are looking for feedback on printing and VPN connectivity with L2TP and OpenConnect/AnyConnect VPNs.

Are there any RPI images for beta4 available, would love to test on a variety of different RPIs.

We don’t produce beta images, but you could use the eos4.0 nightly image from the date of the latest beta release, which will have the same content as 4.0.0-beta4: image (2.8 GB), checksum. It should work on all variations (2GB, 4GB, 8GB) of the Raspberry Pi 4 B.

I recommend you switch it to the beta channel right away, so it updates to the next beta releases instead of the nightly builds, where things have a slightly higher probability of breaking. After 4.0.0 is released you can switch it to the production channel or continue on the beta, as usual.
