Get Involved | Engagement

There are many ways you can contribute to Endless when you’re not a developer or technical user. Engagement focuses on the human aspect of the project, with the goal of making it more welcoming, productive, and accessible.

Below you’ll find just some of the ways you can help improve the Endless user experience for both existing and new users. We also encourage you to introduce yourself here on the forums or on Telegram to let us know what you would like to do.

Design

Good designs make community projects more attractive, and that makes them more successful. There are a number of ways a designer can contribute to Endless, from visual design to UI & UX design. Below are just a few of the tasks we’re always looking for help with:

  • Marketing materials, flyers and info cards
  • Promotional images for announcements & social media
  • Community website design

To help you get started designing for Endless, we’ve provided a number of visual resources that you can use, including our logo, color palette, and brand guidelines that will let you make your projects match ours.

Project Management

The Endless community is made up of many self motivated contributors, but in order to work effectively together we need people who can help us stay organized and on track. If this is in your skillset here are some of the things you can contribute to:

  • Leadership

    • Governance
    • Mentoring
  • Event planning

    • Release parties
    • Hackathons
    • Conferences
  • Release planning

    • Social media schedule
    • Contact journalists

If you want to become a leader in the Endless community, the first step is joining The Orange League.

Outreach and Events

We at Endless are proud of what we’re building together, and we take every opportunity to tell people about it. But hearing from us doesn’t have the same impact as hearing from you!

Help us spread the word about Endless OS by taking part in the following:

  • Social media promotion
  • Giving presentations
  • Organizing events

If you’re organizing an event, make sure to take a look at our Reimbursement Policy to see how we can support you if you need financial assistance.

Multimedia

Getting information and awareness about Endless OS across to new users is important, and using a variety of media helps us grab their attention more than plain text. So if you have a talent for creating videos or a voice for audio, here are some of the ways you can contribute:

  • Marketing

    • Photographs for marketing use
    • Promo images for social media and blogs
    • New feature videos
    • Videos highlighting users or events
  • Localization

    • Replacing text in images with localized strings
    • Creating localized screenshots or videos for documentation
  • Podcasts

    • Interviews or guest speakers

You can use the videos in our visual resources page for content and inspiration.

Tutorials

The target users of Endless OS are very often going to be new to computers altogether, so they’re going to need some help learning about their new system and even about computers in general.

Creating tutorials and posting them on this forum will be immensely helpful to them, and gives us a way to support more and more users in the future.

Here are some suggestions of tutorials that you could create:

  • App Installation & first time use
  • Small task tutorials (ex: changing wallpaper)
  • Big task tutorials (ex: creating a flyer in Writer)
  • Technical tutorials (ex: adding multiple users, resetting passwords)
  • Hardware setup (ex: adding a printer)
  • Knowledge app creation

Documentation

If you enjoy writing and thinking about how to make it easier for people to work together, then documentation might be a great way for you to get involved with Endless.

Here are some ideas for where you can get started:

  • Endless OS User Manual
Since a lot of our users are brand new to computers, Linux, and/or free software, we would like to create documentation to help them learn how to use popular tools and features found on Endless OS.

    • Articles and translations
  • Getting Involved documentation
Help us make it easy for community members to contribute to Endless OS by improving pages like this and others that document how to get involved.

    • Writing or improving forum articles for how to get involved
  • End user documentation

    • Upstream Help Center docs – since we heavily rely on upstream GNOME documentation, your contribution there will directly impact Endless OS

Support

You can help us support other Endless OS users by answering their questions and helping them share their needs.

Here are some places where you can support users:

  • Forums
  • Facebook & Social Media
  • Telegram & WhatsApp
